Lady Murasaki was as 11th-century courtier, her novels are the first recorded written by a woman. Translated to English from Japanese by Arthur Waley. Tale of Genji (1925) back cover starting to separate, top of spine has small tears. Writing on front endpaper in Chinese or Japanese characters in ink, a small newspaper photo of Arthur Waley is pasted in. Some spotting throughout. The Sacred Tree (1926) top of spine has some tears, bottom scuffed. Some pencil marks on endpaper, some spotting throughout. A Wreath of Cloud (1927), some spotting (throughout).
